| | Project Conserve
Project Conserve is an initiative designed to demonstrate to the nation that Elk River is serious about conserving our precious natural resources. Project Conserve intends to establish money saving techniques regarding energy, solid waste, and transportation through "reduction." Participants could potentially save at least $400 in the first year without major lifestyle changes.
The Energy City Commission has chosen 36 households from over 130 applicants to participate in this pilot project. Participants have attended quarterly meetings where representatives from Elk River Municipal Utilities, Center Point Energy, and the City of Elk River have discussed the program and handed out materials to get started toward conservation. Each set of meetings has continually focused more closely on each of the topics for conservation.
Project Conserve was recognized by the League of Minnesota Cities by being awarded a 2009 LMC Award for Sustainability and Energy Use. Persons who have questions concerning Project Conserve should call (763) 635-1330 for more information.
