Saturday, February 27, 2010 was the fourth annual Energy Expo
The fourth annual Energy Expo was held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Elk River High School. Over 600 people attended the event to see exhibitors regarding sustainable living practices and energy conservation and to hear the keynote speaker, Will Steger.
World renowned polar explorer, Will Steger, presented "Eyewitness to Global Warming" in Zabee Theater, followed by a question and answer period and book signing at his exhibitor booth. It was Steger's vivid account of the changes that he's witnessed firsthand, caused by global warming pollutants, in Arctic regions over four decades of polar exploration. Steger shared stunning photographs from his expeditions along with compelling data and satellite imagery to document the deterioration in the polar ice caps.
In addition to the keynote speaker and exhibitors, Waste Management provided an educational and edible experience for kids age 6 - 18, "Luscious Landfill," where food items are substituted for the "building blocks" of a landfill in order to make a dessert while teaching the fundamental technologies behind landfill construction. ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) was also on hand with a variety of projects for children aged birth - kindergarten. Tricia and the Toonies provided entertainment for "all ages" concerning the 3 R's (reduce, reuse, recycle) and water conservation.
