The City of Elk River Energy City Commission governs Energy City.
The Commission consists of up to fifteen members appointed by the City Council. Terms are three-years beginning on the first day of March; however, members hold office until their successors have been appointed. Members consist of one representative from the following: City Council, Elk River Municipal Utilities, the City's Economic Development Authority, Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce, Suburban Northwest Builders Association, Elk River Landfill, Independent School District 728, Sherburne County Board of Commissioners, one member from an environmental group and up to six representatives from energy related businesses as determined by the City Council.
The Commission is required to meet at least four times each calendar year; however the Commission has established a routine of meeting the third Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at Elk River City Hall, 13065 Orono Parkway. Meetings are sometimes held elsewhere (at Energy City demonstration sites) but dates and times typically remain the same.
Additional meetings, such as Commission Subcommittee meetings, are held on an as-needed basis.
